This is why lots of young people and adults were running, walking and hiding all over West Lancashire on Saturday

On Saturday 25th January 2020 more than 700 Scouts and Explorers supported by over 100 adult volunteers descended on Farmer Ted’s to take part in Operation Moonlight.
Operation Moonlight is similar to a game of manhunt but over a very large area. The teams of Scouts and Explorers have to successfully navigate from a ‘mystery’ start point to the end point. This year the start point was Croston and the end point was Farmer Ted’s in Downholland, over 10 miles away.
Ten buses departed Farmer Ted’s and dropped the teams off at the start. The teams all started with a number of ‘lives’ and had to try to avoid the catchers. During the mammoth game, some of the teams will have traversed over 15 miles to avoid being caught and the day from start to finish was more than 15 hours long.

With more than 117 teams taking part and being chased by 24 teams of catchers, this is the largest game of manhunt in the North West, covering a huge area and getting young people out and about and enjoying themselves.
Scout Leader Brian Smith managed to carry a birthday cake in his rucksack to surprise one of his team during Operation Moonlight and the team stopped and enjoyed cake to replenish their energy levels.
The Scouts could not manage to enjoy events like this without the support of the adult volunteers. The organisation, planning and time put into organising this event is staggering but worth it to see the smiles, confidence and teamwork gained by the Scouts and Explorers.
