Nearly one thousand Scouters gather for fun in the sun

Nearly a thousand adults and young people involved in Scouting in Ormskirk and District enjoyed their largest camp of the year held at Bibby’s Farm near Bolton.
The event was also visited by West Lancashire Mayor, Councillor Gaynar Owen, who is using her term of office to support Scouting.
She was very impressed by the camaraderie of the youngsters and how well-behaved they were saying “The children, no way are they bored here. The activities they’ve got going on, canoeing, abseiling and the bouncy castles, grass sledging, crossbows, just too much to mention”.

The camp was a great success and District Commissioner for Ormskirk and District Scouts, Michelle Durney, was full of compliments for the team who arranged The Gathering, which also included some of the Explorer Section (14 and 18 year olds).

The camp started on Friday evening with hot dogs and an outdoor movie and continued with an action-packed, fun-filled day of challenge and adventure on Saturday. Activities included: cave bus, crossbow, pedal cars, archery, grass sledging, aerial runway, crate stacking and many more. There were also woodland activities in the #skillsforlife zone, inflatables in the ‘Scouts just wanna have fun’ zone, crafts and science, and water activities in the water zone.
With discos, and even more fun events on Sunday, everyone who attended was smiling, happy, tired but looking forward to making more Scouting memories next year.
