Local Scouts set to ‘Explore’ the world this summer
The summer holidays are about to get underway and some of our local scouts will be setting off to three continents to represent Ormskirk and District Scouts at some big events.
Five Explorer Scouts will be heading off to America to represent West Lancashire at the 24th World Scout Jamboree. This once in a lifetime opportunity will last three weeks and will see them become ambassadors for UK Scouting.
Some fundraising Explorer scouts will also be traveling to Uganda to take part in a community project. They have helped to raise over £20,000 which will enable them to deliver some impressive projects including a borehole, farm, 4 berth toilet block, goat farm and a refurbished library. This is a great effort by these young people and shows that being part of the Scouting family can change the world.
Eleven Explorers will be heading to Serbia in the Summer holidays to undertake an expedition of a lifetime. This ten day expedition is a real challenge of a lifetime and helps them to gain a real understanding of a different country, culture and way of life. This is part of their Explorer Belt and they will have to complete a series of projects and most importantly meet local people. This trip will create memories for life.
As well as the above trips, some local groups are also heading off to foreign countries to give more scouts the opportunity of a lifetime. Austria and France are destinations for two groups from Ormskirk and District.
Ormskirk and District Scouting has plenty to offer young people and adults and if you would like to join in the adventure send an email toJoin@ormskirkscouts.org.uk
