Burscough burglar who defecated on patio sentenced to 52 months in jail.
A 52-year-old man from Burscough has been sentenced today to 52 months in prison. Robert Owen was found guilty accused of attempt burglary and burglary.
At approximately 03:30pm on 29th January 2018 Robert Owen entered the rear garden of an address on Colburn Close, Burscough. He attempted to gain entry via the rear patio doors, he was unsuccessful but caused damage the doors in the process. This incident was made ever more disturbing for the absent home owner as Owen then defecated on the patio before making his escape via the canal tow path to the rear of the premises.
Officers located and arrested Owen on Tuesday 8th February, however he was released under investigation pending forensic results.
On 19th May 2018 Owen entered the victims property whilst he was in the process of moving home. Owen has made off with several items including the homeowners bicycle.
On Monday 18th June 2018 West Lancashire target Team officers forced entry to his home address and found him hiding in his bedroom subsequently arresting him for the above offence.
A trial commenced and on Wednesday 12th December 2018 Owen was found guilty by a jury of Attempt burglary and burglary. He was sentenced to 16 months for the attempt burglar and 32 months for the burglary with both sentences to run concurrently.
Owens was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £170.
Police feel that this is a significant sentence for the local community and that Robert Owen is a person who has a complete disregard for the victims of his crimes. Hopefully this sentence will bring some comfort to them. Local Police will continue to proactively target those people within the local community who pose a risk and threat to others.
