Ormskirk man charged with attempted murder

Ormskirk was shocked on Monday after finding out that a road closure was due to a suspected attempted murder. Police confirmed later on Monday that they had arrested a 62-year-old-man for suspected attempted murder.

The incident saw Aughton Street closed for over three hours after a Citroen DS car mounted the pavement and rammed a female pedestrian.

The woman, in her 60s, suffered injuries to her lower body and was taken to Aintree Hospital. She is recovering in hospital and thankfully her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police have released the name of the man as Mark Gibbons of Bold Lane, Ormskirk and he has been charged with attempted murder. He is due to appear at Preston Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday July 24th.
