Aerial picture shows the devastation on Winter Hill

The Fire and Rescue Service have declared the fire on Winter Hill a ‘major incident’ after two large-scale moorland fire converged on the West Pennine Moors above Bolton. The brave men and women of the emergency services are nearly entering their sixth day of battling the fires on Winter Hill.

The fires on Winter Hill and Horrocks Farm are now being treated as one incident.

The Winter Hill fire is expected to continue to burn for ‘several days’. At present there are more than 80 firefighters tackling the blaze and 15 pumps at the scene. There may be a call for assistance from the Army.

Emergency services are asking people to stay away from the area.
