Tesco to close down website store

Tesco Direct has announced that it will close on July 9th 2018 with potentially 500 jobs being lost. The superstore cannot see how it will make profits from the online division, so has taken the decision to close the non-food part of the website.

Their announcement last week that Tesco Direct was set to close came as a shock to many but as with all closures of retail outlets there’s always stock to offload.

Tesco Direct launched in 2006 to rival Amazon and Argos but their executive Charles Wilson said: “This decision has been a very difficult one to make, but it is an essential step towards establishing a more sustainable non-food offer and growing our business for the future.”
