An inquest into the death of teenager Louis Simpson who died after a fire at a barn in Parbold last year has ruled that he died as a result of misadventure.

Detective Chief Inspector Geoff Hurst said: “First and foremost my thoughts remain with Louis’ family and friends. His death was a tragedy for them and a sad loss to the wider community.

“In the 14 months since this appalling incident Lancashire Constabulary has carried out a full and thorough investigation on behalf of HM Coroner, including staging a number of reconstructions with our colleagues from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service. That investigation has found no evidence of any criminality or any third party involvement in Louis’ death.

“The verdict that the Coroner has reached today is based upon the evidence of that investigation and has found that Louis’ death was purely the result of a tragic accident.

“We have offered the support of family liaison officers to Louis’ family throughout and we will continue to do so for as long as they want it. Once again, my thoughts remain with them.”
