Dog owners beware
Bickerstaffe Parish Council has launched a crackdown on irresponsible dog owners. The
Dogwatch Campaign has been introduced as residents are sick
of dog faeces being left on paths and
Enforcement Officers. Parish Councillors and volunteers will be on the lookout in the area to reduce the mess and to help Bickerstaffe stayclean from dog mess.
A recent survey raised concerns about dog fouling, and
householders from Barrow Nook, Heyescroft and Liverpool Road expressed their disgust at owners who do not pick up after their dogs. The footpath between Church
Road by the windmill to Liverpool Road was highlighted as a problem. Bickerstaffe Parish Council has now had this footpath cleared and cleaned up, and dogwatch campaigners want
to keep it that way.
The campaign group will be out and about with leaflets, banners, dog poop bags and posters highlighting the issue and consequences of not
picking up after dogs. They will explain the health concerns, to
the issue of prosecution and fines. The Enforcement Team continue to be on the lookout in the area and will fine offenders.
This campaign also supports the majority of dog-owners who are responsible and pick up after their dogs.
The direct line for Dog Enforcement is : 01695 585254 and the current fine for dog fouling offences is £75.
